Sailadhar Baruah Memorial Trust
Well cultured, an honest businessman and an eminent producer Sailadhar Baruah along with Jahnu
Barua won Swarna Kamal and establish Assamese film not just in India but in the global arena.
But on January 10 in 2010, Sailadhar Baruah passed away following a prolonged illness, leaving a
void almost impossible to fill.
After that his younger brother Mrinmoy Baruah, sister Nirmala Talukdar and with the support of
his other family members and well-wishers we set up "Sailadhar Baruah Memorial Trust". The main
aim of the trust is to keep his works alive and carry forward his legacy.
With that motto in mind, we started this Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards among the films made in
Assam in 2016. Later in 2019, we expanded our area by covering all the states of the North-East
Region.
Aims
The Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards — a feature film competition for North East Region to encourage
the production of films of aesthetic and technical excellence, Social relevance and cultures in
cinematic form also promoting unity and integrity of North East Region.
We are thankful to all the filmmakers and well-wishers from across the North East for their
unconditional love and support over the years, which motivated us to go ahead.
